You had Botox two weeks ago. Most of it looks great — but one brow sits a little higher than the other, or a small patch on your forehead still creases. Is something wrong?
Almost certainly not. At CosMed Aesthetics in Tigard, Oregon, a two-week check-in is a normal, expected part of the process — not a sign your treatment failed.
Why Two Weeks Is the Magic Number
Botox doesn’t work instantly. It takes a few days to begin relaxing the muscle, and the full effect isn’t visible until around day 14. That’s why we never assess results early — what looks uneven on day 5 often settles perfectly on its own by day 14.
Waiting the full two weeks before judging your results is the single most important thing you can do.
What Is a Botox Touch-Up?
A touch-up is a small addition of units to fine-tune your result — usually just a few units in one specific spot. It’s not a redo, and it’s not starting over. Think of it as the final adjustment on something that’s already 90% there.
Common reasons for a touch-up:
- One side is slightly stronger than the other
- A small area of movement remains
- Your brows aren’t sitting quite evenly
- A stubborn muscle needed more units than expected
Why Some People Need One and Others Don’t
Everyone’s muscles are different. Muscle strength, metabolism, and even how much you use certain expressions all affect how your body responds. Someone with a strong frown muscle may simply need more units than the standard starting dose.
First-time patients are the most likely to need a touch-up — because until we see how your face responds, we’re working from an educated starting point. We intentionally start conservative. It’s always easier to add than to wait out too much.
Why We Start Conservative
This is worth saying plainly: a provider who under-doses slightly and touches up is doing it right. A provider who over-doses to avoid a second visit is how people end up frozen.
Starting conservative and adjusting is what produces natural results — and it’s exactly why the two-week check-in exists.
Does a Botox Touch-Up Cost Extra?
Touch-ups are typically billed by the units used — so a small adjustment costs far less than a full treatment. Because we only add what’s needed, most touch-ups involve just a few units.
Bring it up at your consultation and we’ll explain exactly how it works for your plan.
When It’s Too Late for a Touch-Up
There’s a window. Touch-ups work best between two and four weeks after your original treatment. After about a month, your Botox is already at full effect and beginning its natural decline — at that point, adding units is really just starting a new treatment cycle.
So if something feels off, don’t wait it out. Book the check-in.
